3c. The Clean Air Act of 1970 and Amendments

The Clean Air Act of 1970 resulted in a major shift in the federal government’s role in air pollution control. This legislation authorized the development of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, which regulate emissions from both stationary (industrial) sources and mobile sources (automobiles). Later, the Clean Air Act was amended to regulate acid rain.

North Dakota has always been in compliance with the National Ambient Air Quality standards.
