Lesson 4: Geologic Drilling

Miners use geologic drilling to determine if a coal seam can be profitable. Most of North Dakota’s coal fields were identified back in the 1970s using geologic drilling. In this lesson, we’ll look at different methods used to locate coal and determine its characteristics.
