7c. History of the Dakota Synfuels Gasification Plant

Located near Beulah, the Dakota Synfuels Plant is the only commercial-scale coal gasification plant in the United States that manufactures natural gas. Domestic lignite coal fuels the plant. It’s capable of gasifying more than 6 million tons of coal every year. The plant captures carbon dioxide (CO2) and sends it to Canada via pipeline for the world’s largest CO2 sequestration project.
